When we decided to expand Chioke Produções' operations to the interior of Rio de Janeiro, we knew that working in Três Rios would be different from producing in the capital or in large centers. And it was precisely this difference that taught us valuable lessons about audiovisual production.

Producing outside the mainstream is not just a matter of logistics. It's about valuing local contexts, building genuine relationships, and proving that technical quality and solid planning can happen anywhere.

In this article, we'll share what we've learned from producing real projects in Três Rios — from web series to family photo shoots — and how this experience has transformed the way we view regional audiovisual production.

Why Produce Audiovisual Content in Rural Rio de Janeiro?

Many companies and cultural institutions in rural areas believe they need to hire production companies from Rio de Janeiro or São Paulo to achieve professional quality. This is not true.

What rural areas need is not large structures from outside, but production companies that:

  • Know the local reality

  • Are present throughout the entire process

  • Understand the cultural and logistical particularities of the region

  • Offer the same technical standards as large centers, but with proximity and constant dialogue

Our work in Três Rios was born from this vision: to bring cinema and professional audiovisual language to where the stories happen.

Case 1: Connected Crafts — When Planning Makes All the Difference

The Challenge

The Connected Crafts project by the Oficina de Costura Collective had a clear goal: to promote local artisans in Três Rios and document their traditional techniques. But how could this purpose be transformed into a video that would really connect with the audience?

The answer lay in planning.

Location Study: São Sebastião Square

Before shooting a single frame, we visited São Sebastião Square, a social and historical space for the city. We observed:

  • Natural lighting at different times of the day

  • Flow of people and possible noise interference

  • Best angles to capture both the artisan and the surrounding environment

  • Equipment logistics (where to position the camera, tripod, reflectors)

This location study was not bureaucracy. It ensured that, on the day of filming, everything flowed naturally. We knew exactly where to position the artisan, what time to take advantage of the best light, and how to capture the essence of the project without seeming forced.

The Result

The three-episode web series achieved over 300 views on YouTube and Instagram—a significant number for regional cultural content—and generated genuine recognition from the community.

More important than the numbers? The video fulfilled its role: it documented techniques that gave visibility to those who deserved it.

Lesson Learned

Cultural audiovisual production cannot be achieved with good intentions alone. It requires:

✅ Rigorous technical planning
✅ Respect for the characters' timing and pace
✅ Location scouting to avoid unforeseen circumstances
✅ Proximity to the community being portrayed

When these elements come together, the result is authentic and impactful.

Case 2: Family Photo Shoot — When Emotion Guides Production

A client from Três Rios approached us to capture a special moment: a family photo shoot to preserve memories. It seemed simple at first glance, but the execution revealed something powerful about audiovisual production.

The Difference: The Family's Excitement

From the first contact, we realized that this family was genuinely excited. It wasn't just “another shoot.” It was a moment they wanted to immortalize with care and affection.

This energy completely changed our approach. Instead of following a rigid script of poses and scenarios, we let the family's emotions guide the images.

We captured:

  • Spontaneous smiles

  • Knowing glances

  • Natural interactions between parents and children

  • Moments that weren't in the briefing, but that told the real story of that family

Lesson Learned

The best audiovisual production is not the one that follows a perfect technical checklist. It is the one that captures truth and emotion.

When we work with people (and not just for brands), sensitivity becomes as important as technique. Knowing when to intervene, when to step back, and when to just observe makes all the difference in the final result.

A photo shoot is not just about pressing the camera button. It is about creating an environment where people feel comfortable being themselves.

What Makes Audiovisual Production in Três Rios Unique

1. Proximity Transforms Processes

When you are in the same territory as your client or partner, communication is more direct. We are able to:

  • Visit locations as many times as necessary

  • Adjust schedules with flexibility

  • Be available for questions and face-to-face alignments

  • Monitor the impact of the work on the community

2. Local Context Enriches Narratives

Getting to know Três Rios and the surrounding region allows us to:

  • Identify authentic (non-generic) locations

  • Understand local cultural references

  • Build narratives that make sense to those who live there

  • Avoid stereotypes or superficial views of the countryside

When you understand the context, your creative choices are more accurate.

3. Planning Overcomes Limitations

Producing outside major centers requires even more rigorous planning. That's why:

  • We study each location in advance

  • We organize realistic schedules

  • We ensure that each day of filming is used to its fullest potential

  • We maintain documented processes (production notes) to avoid rework

The result? The same technical quality as large centers, but with leaner and more efficient processes.
